Blue Butterfly!

Hi Everyone,

I saw the coolest thing last week! I was outside with Mrs. Migoski before school one morning when I noticed a blue butterfly on the shutter of the house. When I looked closer, I saw the cocoon it had just come out of right below it.  Do you know the fancy word for cocoon? It is chrysalis.

See the chrysalis below the butterfly? I can't believe it fit in there! We watched the butterfly for a few minutes and then it flew away.  Its first flight! It was an exciting moment. Mrs. Migoski looked up the real name for this butterfly.  You'll never guess...

It is called the Red Spotted Purple butterfly. Let's look at that butterfly again.

Do you see any red?  Any spots?  Any purple? Where do they get these names?

I didn't think I was going to have any new friends come to visit this week but then on Thursday in came Katie Ann.

It is the last full week of school and the last music class for most of you. This will be the last time Mrs. Migoski shows you my blog this year. Don't worry though, I'm sure I will be blogging over the summer. Please don't forget me and be sure to get on the blog every once in a while and see what I am up to. Have a great summer.  Read lots of books. I'll see you in August.

Love,

Kit

Parents: Week of May 12 - 16, 2014

Next choir concert:

Sunday, May 18, 4:00 High School Auditorium
Dress is a white shirt and dark, nice pants/skirt.

5th grade kids played the Apache Chant game and added the drum part to the singing when they were out of the game. The high school teacher across the hall came over to ask me what the cool Indian song with the drums I've been doing is. We sound good.

4th graders played the Black Snake game. Black Snake teaches us about syncopation.

There was a major upset in the Fifty Nifty game competition between the third grade classes.  Mrs. Ross' class put up a score of 95% this week to take over the lead.  Each class has only one more opportunity to improve their score this year.

2nd graders finished the Beethoven movie.  On Thursday, Mrs. Lawrence's class watched a video of themselves playing the song Lucy Locket and did a critique of their performance.

1st grade students finished Each of Us is a Flower and began working on train songs. Ask your child what two instruments we have that make the sounds of a train (cabasa and train whistle).

The kinder kids in Mrs. Sustarsic's class reviewed several instruments we learned about this year by adding them to the picnic song.  We also started a new song called Going to the Zoo.  Mrs. Hensley's class had a popcorn party.

Baby Plants!

Hi Everyone!

There are baby plants in the garden!

Green Beans

 Spinach

Beets
(the most musical plant in the garden!
Get it? Beets!)

I'm still waiting on the peas and the green peppers.

Our 4th and 5th grade choir concerts are this Sunday.  Choir kids should be at the high school band room at 3:45 on Sunday.  Wear a white shirt and dark pants or skirt.

Here are the dolls that came to visit me for the first time last week.

Summer vacation is coming but it is not here yet. Keep working hard, do your reading and math facts, and enjoy the last couple of weeks here at school with your friends.

Nothing happening in the garden yet.

Hi Everyone,

I checked the garden I planted last week and nothing is happening yet.  I hope to see seedlings by next weekend.  I'll keep you posted.

Mrs. Migoski got very excited during dinner on Thursday, May 1.  That was when she saw the first hummingbird of the season.  She always says that the hummingbird feeder has to be out before May because the hummingbirds come back on May 1 and she was exactly right! Amazing! How does she know when the birds are going to come back?

Here are the dolls that came to visit me for the first time last week:

Holly and Kit

Emily and Kit

Have a great week! Don't forget to turn in your reading calendar by Wednesday.  Last one of the year!

Parents: Summary of April 28 - May 2, 2014

Next choir concert:

Union County Fine Arts Day
Sunday, May 18, 2014
4:00 High School Auditorium
White shirt and nice dark pants or skirt.

5th grade kids played drums to the Apache Chant song.

4th graders finished the Beethoven movie.

3rd grade students played the hard Fifty Nifty game again.  Mrs. Townsend's class held on to the lead but Mrs. Paluch's class had the most improvement from the previous week.  We also worked with the song America the Beautiful.

2nd graders square danced one more time and learned a song/game called 1, 2, 3 Alary.  Ask your child if they tried to play the game on their own at recess.

1st grade kids learned my favorite first grade song, Each of Us is a Flower.  We didn't learn to sing it, we learned to sign it!  Ask your child what the sign for flower is.  He/she should also be able to do sun, rain, wind, moon, earth, grow, and roots. Next week we will each create a flower with our picture that will hang in the hallway.

Kindergarten kids learned a song called Red Boomwhacker. We played lots of boomwhackers.

Shannon with Boomwhackers.
Mrs. Schwendenman's, Miss Crawford's, and Mrs. Wewe's classes earned popcorn parties this week. Most classes are working hard to earn one last party before the end of the year.
